Overview
Tamping presses the ground coffee into an even, level puck. Two things go wrong for beginners: pressing at a slight angle, and pressing harder some days than others. Both lead to uneven shots.
A self-levelling, spring-loaded tamper fixes both. The outer plate rests on the basket rim so the tamp is always flat, and the spring means you push until it bottoms out, giving the same pressure every time. Three springs let you choose how firm that is.
Before tamping, stir the grounds with a WDT tool. Afterwards, a puck screen on top keeps the machine cleaner.
