Overview
A puck screen is a thin metal disc that rests on top of the tamped coffee, like a little lid. It spreads the incoming water more evenly and keeps grounds off your machine's shower screen, so there's less scrubbing and more sipping.
Made for Breville baskets. At 53.3 mm, Normcore sized it for Breville's 54 mm portafilters. It's a single 0.8 mm layer of 316 stainless steel with fine 0.18 mm perforations (per Normcore), so it's sturdy and easy to rinse.
Your 54 mm routine, step by step: stir with a WDT tool, tamp with the Normcore 53.3 mm tamper, lay the screen on top, then brew. For 58 mm machines, see the Flair 58 mm screen.
Headspace check: if the screen leaves a mark of the shower screen after a shot, your dose is a touch too high. Take off half a gram and try again.
