Our take

Buy it if

First espresso setups that also want one grinder for pour-over or drip.

Think twice if

An entry-level espresso grinder; enthusiasts may want finer control later

Advantages and limitations

Advantages

  • Settings 1–20 move in micro-steps for espresso; 21–40 suit filter brewing
  • Quick-release burr makes cleaning easier
  • Change grind size by twisting the hopper with one hand
  • 40 mm hardened steel conical burrs made in Liechtenstein

Limitations

  • An entry-level espresso grinder; enthusiasts may want finer control later
  • No built-in timer or dose control

Overview

The Encore ESP looks like the regular Encore, but its adjustment works differently. The first 20 settings move in very small steps, which is what you need to dial in espresso, while settings 21–40 jump in bigger steps for filter coffee. That makes it one of the few budget grinders that can genuinely do both.

It is a natural partner for a machine without a grinder, such as the Breville Bambino Plus. The quick-release burr comes out without tools, so cleaning takes minutes.

Round out the setup with a scale to weigh doses and a WDT tool to break up clumps before tamping. If you only make filter coffee, the plain Encore is enough.

Compatibility & maintenance

Grinds for espresso and for filter methods (pour-over, drip, AeroPress, French press). Switching between espresso and filter settings means re-dialling each time, so many owners settle on one main method.

Pop out the quick-release burr to brush away old grounds every few weeks. Avoid very oily beans, which clog burrs faster. Baratza sells replacement parts.
